Good cologne is not only a necessity but an identity of a man. It’s important to know what kind of fragrance suits you and which is your signature scent. Most of the time you have the cologne that is gifted or you have bought just because the sales executive recommended it.
From this it’s never your personality that is looked at, so know how to choose your fragrance according to your lifestyle, occasion, and personality.
1. CHOOSING IN THE STORES
Ask for some paper testers of the fragrances you would like. Do not directly go to try on the skin.Finalize the best two which you liked the most. Try them on each wrist, leave it for a few minutes (this makes the perfume oil get along with the skin and release the exact scent).
Now choose between those two as your final choice. From this not only will you take home the best-suited fragrance for you, but also will know yourself better.
Make sure you don’t just go with the executives while choosing; take what you like the most not what they would want to sell.
2. TYPES OF PERFUME OIL
Floral - This is the flavor of fruity and floral extracts, which are traditional fragrances and will have that subtle feel to them.
Fresh - A tinge of citrus which gives that refreshing feel, this flavor is more breezy and has a close to nature kind of effect to it.
Oriental – This flavor is a somewhat mysterious and strong appeal to it, like the vanilla, cinnamon, and patchouli give this.
Woody – As the name suggests it has an earthy effect mainly consisting of sandal, cedar, moss, and others for more of a powerful manly scent.
These are the basic fragrances and choosing them for the appropriate occasions is important.
The floral and fresh fragrances are considered to be for daylight or warm seasons whereas oriental and woody are for evening times and cold seasons.
The perfume oil concentration is the most essential thing to note during shopping for the fragrance. The price and the durability of the cologne depend on the concentration of the perfume oil.
Though the concentrations are not directly mentioned, they are named by some of the French words like Eau de toilette, Eau de parfum, and so on. The term used to identify men’s cologne is “Pour Homme”.
3. APPLYING THE PERFUME
The way you use the perfume is as important as investing in it. Just randomly spraying it over your shirt does neither work for you nor be good for your fabrics.
Here are some of the steps for applying it the right way.
Understand your skin texture, this defines how much you should apply and how often.
For dry skin, moisturize yourself generously especially a dab more near the pulse points before applying the perfume. This type of skin will require 2-3 sprays and you are good to go for the day.
For oily skin, moisturize normally and apply 1-2 sprays at the pulse points and that would suffice. This skin texture will hold on to the perfume thus wouldn't need much effort or quantity.
Some of the pulse points are:
- Behind the ears
- Wrists
- Insides of elbows and knees
Do not rub the perfume, always dab it.
"GOOD MANNERS AND GOOD COLOGNE IS WHAT TRANSFERS A MAN INTO A GENTLEMAN"
Thus, choose your fragrance carefully as it is the representation of who you are and the first attraction towards anyone.
Now you have the choice within you and you have reached a step towards your style destination.
